Conflict in Cohousing Communities - Part 1 of 2

Clear, self-responsible communication is essential for community living. This workshop raises awareness of how we communicate and provides practical tools for more effective interactions.

Part 1 introduces group process and the stages common to relationships, from romantic partners to cohousing communities:

Romance -> Power struggle -> Integration

OR

Forming -> Storming -> Norming.

Acknowledging the many effective communication models available, including Non-Violent Communication, participants will learn the Haven Institute's Communication Model, which focuses on perception, interpretation, feelings, intention, and action. Learn to acknowledge context, practice curiosity, and "check it out" through asking, listening, and sharing.

Participants are encouraged to acknowledge the importance of context – their own and the other person’s. The model encourages curiosity: asking, listening, sharing and “checking it out.”

Part 2 gives participants ample time to practice using the communications model, even “walking” it using a floor version of the model.
